HBT works beyond child-friendly spaces to whole communities that are safer, greener, more inclusive and more accessible, and that respond to the needs of women, children and young people.
Transforming spaces, strengthening communities
Over the past decade, HBT has worked alongside communities to plan, reclaim and improve the spaces they live in. Along the way, HBT has:
- Conducted 80+ community-led planning exercises, 50 public space audits, 200+ Cities4Kids audits and 8 Village Development Plans.
- Created 77 neighbourhood play spaces from unused land.
- Set up 2 Model Adolescent Hubs using tactical urbanism, and is working with the municipality to make them permanent.
- Secured 100+ infrastructure improvements, including roads, drains, lights, water points and toilets, through community advocacy.
- Supported climate resilience in 200+ villages across the coastal landscapes of Puri Six focus areas that reinforce one another.

A Future Ready Community is more than one piece of infrastructure. HBT brings together residents, children and youth, schools, local institutions, government departments and partners. Together they identify priorities, test solutions and track what changes.
