Humara Bachpan was conceptualized and initiated by Dharitri Patnaik, an international social development expert with more than 20 years of experience. She launched the Humara Bachpan Campaign in October 2012 while working with the Bernard van Leer Foundation with the support of the foundation. It was formally launched in May 2013. The campaign came into existence to fill a gap in the development sector as no other organisation in India was working on living conditions of young children in urban poverty. Gradually, the campaign evolved into an organisation and started working with the youth and women.
